How to Do Something That Should Be Easy (But...Is...Not)

By How to ADHD

What you'll learn

Sometimes the hardest part isn't completing a task — it's getting started.

This video explains why your brain can get stuck, even when you genuinely want to do something, and introduces practical ADHD-friendly strategies to lower the barrier and build momentum. Instead of forcing yourself to tackle a large task all at once, you'll learn how breaking it into much smaller, manageable steps can make getting started feel much easier.

Why we recommend it

Travelling is full of exciting opportunities, but it can also become overwhelming. Planning your next destination, deciding which hikes to do, figuring out transportation or organising your itinerary can sometimes make it feel easier to do... nothing at all.

One strategy from this video is to make the first step as small as possible. Instead of telling yourself “Today I need to explore all of Jujuy,” try thinking “Today I only need to catch the bus, arrive at my hostel and check in.” Once you’ve taken that first step, the rest often feels much more manageable.

Breaking a big travel plan into smaller, achievable actions can reduce overwhelm, build momentum and help you enjoy your journey without feeling like you need to have everything figured out in advance.
